Zalando Tools
The first concept of the Zalando Design Toolkit, a set of tools to speed up the work of designers from many teams across the company.
Problem
While formalising the new design language, we saw the need for shared tools that designers from many teams could use.
What I did
I designed and developed the first concept of the Zalando Design Toolkit, and introduced Sketch templates and libraries for future mobile app work.
Result
The toolkit was adopted by the whole design team and continued to be used after this first version.
Context & problem
During my time at Zalando I had the chance to design and develop the first concept of the Zalando Design Toolkit. While formalising the updated design language, we discussed the need for a component library, and we introduced a set of Sketch templates and libraries for any future interface work on the mobile apps.
The toolkit was meant to speed up the work of designers across many teams in the company.
The toolkit
The start page groups the toolkit into five parts: onboarding, Sketch templates, a Mac app, a list of resources and a UI library. Alongside it sits a playbook site with a guide to visual design methodology at Zalando.
The video shows the menubar design toolkit itself: centralising resources, a knowledge base and quick access to the rest of the toolkit.
The toolkit was adopted by the whole design team and continued to be used after this first version.
